ARTIST STATEMENT
Paradox explores implied messages, my relationship with time and the imminence of death in a personal and contemporary context. The complexity of the human experience and emotions are expressed through the layered imagery and sound. The clock establishes the passage of time and how the human experience is reliant on its passing. The burning poem expresses the fleetingness of moments and words, whilst simultaneously expressing the vast effect words have on individuals. Paradox represents the absurdity that is life and one’s own existence.There is an irony to the concept of a about being present requiring the artist to disconnect themselves from the actual moment.
ARTWORK PROCESS
All visual components were personally photographed and filmed, with either a digital or Polaroid camera. The audio was also recorded personally to be included in this piece. The poem was written as a personal project then was translated into an original alphabet. All elements of the artwork were then uploaded into a video editing application, using layering techniques for both visual and oral parts, to finally reach the finished product.
