The Hands That Built Mackay Painting
A mixture of body parts and man-made architectural structures unite in this red and blue painting.

ARTIST STATEMENT

'The Hands That Built Mackay' displays the culmination of appendages and architectural landmarks of Mackay which are woven together in a single composition. This painting is detailed and combines clean lines, distinguishable forms and gestural marks. I use a strong colour palette of blue and red hues, and appropriate different aspects of human features and architectural structures. The resulting artwork revolves around the shape of the hands which are positioned meticulously in various ways that imitate the Art-Deco details of the historical buildings of Mackay.

ARTWORK PROCESS

Much layering and mark making was required to resolve 'The Hands That Built Mackay'. I kept the colour palette simple as the work was always intended to be of a busy nature. The hands and distinguishable architectural features were added throughout this process and have become the various focal points of the painting.
