ARTIST STATEMENT
My work seeks to explore the beauty standards that push past the traditional view of gender binarism and the view that these two genders each have very specific characteristics of what makes them beautiful. I deliberately chose a form with both feminine and masculine features but did not define the subject, the colour pallet reaffirms this. The gender ambiguity of the subject does not diminish its inherent beauty.
ARTWORK PROCESS
This artwork was created through layering of acrylic paint. I began with a close up image of a female face in colours synonymous with female beauty and makeup. i built up layers changing the features and colours to be more masculine until the remaining form was ambiguous.
