ARTIST STATEMENT
The point of ‘the wanderer’ was to display an objectifiable representation of physical rejection. With ‘the wanderer’ himself being a natural uncomfortable entity he is rejected wherever he goes, thus forcing him to forever wander from group to group and place to place.
Rather then making something uncomfortable, just for the sake of it, I wanted there to be a reason. A sculpted figure with an uncomfortable message behind it, that most people forget is a reality for some others was the outcome of that search for reason.
ARTWORK PROCESS
The figures general shape can also be likened to an aged shepherd (with the staff similar to the shepherd crook) which helps with the isolated or forsaken vibe.
The whole rejected by those around you and just wandering between locations without any real place to be definitely pulled from my primary school years and even most of my high school ones, where I spent most of my time alone and literally just walking around the school.
