ARTIST STATEMENT

The idea of beauty is corrupted within our generation, always having to look up to someone who may seem prettier than us on social media. This feeling of us not being able to achieve this level of beauty traps us in a constant rath of negativity from society. Having our bodies constantly shamed by words on a screen but projected upon our human bodies. Always constantly judged on how we look by society. Society has branded the words deep into our skin, calling us by these hateful words. It exposes the vulnerable state that we are contently in.

ARTWORK PROCESS

My focus looked at the capture the beauty of the human form and how I presented it in a vulnerable state of isolation and shame towards the audience. Jenny Saville’s “Propped” manipulates the female body in a way that disgusts the audience and brings questions about beauty standards within society. I captured this technique within my own work and adding the concept of projection and other elements to convey discomfort to the audience. The canvas shows us at our most vulnerable state when weighted down with words branded upon our skin.
