ARTIST STATEMENT
“Non-existent humans” is a contemporary artwork that explores the inquiry “what if humans didn’t exist?”. It was created using acrylic and realistic techniques to create a dream like landscape, torn away from the current contemporary issue of pollution. This was accomplished using graphite pencil and acrylic paint, along with inspirations gained from artist Dustin Yellin and Tan Zi Xi. Inspiration was also gained from David Attenborough’s Documentary ‘The year the earth changed’ and an excursion through Brisbane city. These artists and techniques allowed me to introduce my audience to a new perspective, whilst raising awareness on the impacts of humans.
ARTWORK PROCESS
Section B features a thriving, colourful world that represents the possibilities of what if humans didn’t exist and the interconnectedness of life. This concept was inspired by Dustin Yellin and David Attenborough’s Documentary ‘The year the earth changed’.
Section C compliments Section A, as it features a cluttered, grey scale junk pile, which links back to the contemporary issue of pollution, explored in Section A. I chose to include it in the resolved piece to make the contemporary issue really stand out to the audience to help raise awareness.
