ARTWORK DETAILS

Chanel Mason
Into the blue Costume Design
A couture wearable art collection of salvaged and handmade materials represents both a literal and non-literal personal journey and connection.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Into the blue is a statement dress of discarded ocean pollution from the fishing industry. Symbolic materials represent my personal experience in response to the reef stimulus. The dress signifies how the natural world endures the effects of humanity merging with natural phenomena while showing my personal experiences. To evoke an emotive response, 'Into the blue' exploits materials and creates a dialogue with the audience to consider their role in the environmental issue of pollution.

ARTWORK PROCESS

Using found, salvaged and handmade materials, each layer of this artwork has been thoughtfully draped, arranged, stitched and glued to create a couture representation of the connections between personal journey and the environment. Photographing this work in the environment is significant in the representation of connection.
