ARTIST STATEMENT

Myths and folklores are what we grow up on. Yet it is inherently intertwined with nature and life deepening a sense of culture and tradition. The links between nature and mythology is deep and apart of almost every lore and fable taught to us through history. My paintings explore the associations and connections of nature through mythologies and the way they connect so easily. Each painting portrays a portrait incorporating themes of mythology and nature, all combing to form their own stories I grew up on; Dias De Los Muertos, Medusa and flower Nymphs. Beyond each painting there is a circle in the background creating

ARTWORK PROCESS

I produced my triptych piece artwork through an inspiration of nature, portraits and mythology. Using references of portrait photography, I was able to create 3 original concepts for painted portraits which incorporate my inquiry question and mythology. Each piece was painted using gouache paints, mainly for the focus portraits and then I used acrylic paints to cover the backgrounds and halos behind each portrait. I painted and organised each painting in a way that the centre piece portrait would be looking straight forwards, and the portraits to the side looking slightly towards the centre portrait.
