ARTIST STATEMENT

Topographically identical to Wollumbin (Mt. Warning), 'mound' emphasises the dangers of overlooking the microcosms of our world, although it may seem small and meaningless, it is an imperative part of a larger eco-system, destroyed through ignorance. Ecologically, Wollumbin is a vital part of our natural eco-system and water cycles. Culturally, Wollumbin is a Bundjalung word for ‘fighting chief of the mountains’ as it stands as a powerful sentry to the sacred grounds it sits within. Beyond this it is a signifying landmark of the place I call home. It is an unmissable signifier of the beauty that is all around.

ARTWORK PROCESS

3D laser cut foam, design for which was created on Focus 360 after a land mapping program was accessed and manipulated by the student to create the form of Woolumbin (Mt Warning).
