ARTIST STATEMENT

Elders have a significant impact on our lives. My nan is a major part of my life and I wanted to share that with my audience through objects that I associate with her. The time taken to cherish Nan’s company has transformed the way I view the world. Each Wednesday, she has dinner with my family and on Sundays, I go to Nan’s house for morning tea. This year, Nan has been the subject matter of my artworks and our bond has strengthened. I will forever appreciate Nan’s company; spending time with her has become a vital part of my life.

ARTWORK PROCESS

Firstly, I brainstormed hobbies and interests of my nan. This resulted in capturing a range of photographs incorporating items relating to her hobbies, interests and past times. This artwork was produced at Nan’s residential home where we spent an afternoon together creating a tea party utilising one of her favourite tea sets, demonstrating her love of herbal tea and relaxation. We then shared a cup of tea and biscuits whilst engaging in conversation. My mum also played a major part as she was the photographer. We had a lot of fun at our tea party, sharing many laughs together.
