ARTIST STATEMENT
This triptych explores dichotomy (opposites). In particular, the manipulation of light using long-exposure photography to express themes of light/darkness, movement/stillness and the tranquillity of night compared to the chaos of the day. My art is inspired by frequent visits to industrial areas around Brisbane which interest me because they contrast the regional nature of my home. Abstraction is used to communicate the uncertainty in life and how the only certainty is, that there is none.
ARTWORK PROCESS
Manipulation of light using long exposure photography. The orange image captures the movement of a vehicles taillight breaking. The underpass shows the contrast of emptiness and eeriness of busy roads at night. The water under the purple bridge was rippled with movement but the long exposure shows a calm scene; completely different to the lived experience. All images captured at night imply a contrast with the day.
