Underwater Jail Sculpture
A molded plastic dome with resin drops encapsulated a clay skull embedded with photographs and printed under glaze images.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Imprisoned in an alternate space, Underwater Jail echoes that of the figurative sculptures confined to the greenhouse in the Museum of Underwater Art. Hopes for a wondrous adventure were shredded and memories of a maritime breakdown imprinted my mind as we rock and circle adrift for 14 hours. The moulded translucent plastic entombs the ceramic skull as a parody and reinterpretation of Townsville's renown weather dome and my personal experience of it. Embedded in and trailing from the ceramic skull the audience is compelled to look deeper and imagine what was printed on the shredded paper personal memoirs and and in my mind.

ARTWORK PROCESS

Responding to the Great Barrier Reef and other artists Underwater Jail has been created through a vigorous investigation of alternate ideas and media.
