ARTIST STATEMENT
Grief is an essential part of being human and the inevitability of loss is intertwined throughout our lives. My piece explores these themes, putting into perspective the raw, visual interpretation of losing a loved one, personified utilising symbolic imagery. The focus is the mournful experience of my grandmother’s mental decay, suggested through a younger version of me, with screws penetrating the skull. Wrapped around the screws and threaded through numerous parts of the face is a red thread, symbolising metaphorical pain and imprisonment within oneself. This piece symbolises a metaphorical portrayal of the unique human experience of grief.
