Amelia Dupuy
Dinner for ten Drawing
10 coloured pencil drawings on painted canvas.

ARTIST STATEMENT

‘Dinner for ten’ is a ten-piece collection which conveys the concept of diasporic nostalgia through the themes of culture, colour and animals. Diverse range of cultures, consistent colour hues, familiar mediums such as pencils, paint and themes of animals are significant to the Chinese zodiac representatives, all in cohesive relations to create my body of work to represent a perfect unity of personal aesthetic and my focus of diasporic nostalgia. Challenging the focus of diasporic nostalgia through my art once again, I chose to personal memories of a restaurant I use to regularly visit as inspiration to this collection of drawings.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Amelia Dupuy

Amelia Dupuy is an Australian student who primarily concentrates on diasporic nostalgia through pencil drawings and bold colours. Living with her grandparents for the earlier years of her life has created a longing to keep in touch with her culture. Through old memories and culture, she has created pencil illustrations with child-like themes and south-east Asian representation to depict her personal experiences of immigration, family, tradition and beliefs through contemporary and surrealistic illustrations.
