ARTIST STATEMENT
Flattened images of my face that portray being trapped behind a pane of glass invite the viewer to see the humour in the artwork. I invite laughter as my distorted face is squished against the surface.
Through the manipulation of a familiar three-dimensional object, I have changed our perception of facial features. We no longer have defined eyes but darkness filling them, and without a neck we wonder what’s happening to the rest of the body. Is there more to it than meets the eye?
ARTWORK PROCESS
Using a photocopier, I created several scans of my face by rolling it across the screen. From this, I edited the images in photoshop, and ‘photostitched’ them together. This photographic print on paper is mounted in a wooden box-frame with an acrylic sheet over the front.
