ARTIST STATEMENT
Many precious memories stem from childhood, fuelled by the imagination cultivated to aid in early development. Children create their own make-believe worlds, possessing the ability to keep information separate and thus perceive the visual world differently from adults. However, as we age, many lose those precious memories and the perceptions of such memoires. My artwork Wandering Perception aims to allow the viewer to relive some of those childhood memories and delve into the world of imagination. Wandering Perception explores the world of imagination through the eyes of an adult and a child.
ARTWORK PROCESS
Wandering Perception required substantial amounts of planning and rough sketches to illustrate the story I wished to portray. The final sketches were drawn digitally to be traced on the canvas and two layers of perspex so that it was possible to line each layer up. Once these sketches were complete, the canvas was painted and lined with acrylic, similar to a pop-art style. Using paper underneath the perspex panels, I outlined these sketches with acrylic marker. Finally, stands were made to fit the perspex panels and the artwork was put together.
