ARTIST STATEMENT
Human condition comprises the essentials of human nature; with such minds, we can be hurt by our own conditioning when exposed to vulnerable situations. This work shows the raw and unsettling nature when enduring the ugly parts of our mental growth. Continuous lines form the figures, construct small movements, and provide a boundary for the space they occupy. The figure on the right is a mirror reflection, and yet it has its own identity as it stares out at the viewer, projecting an unwelcoming atmosphere as an intimate moment is interrupted.
ARTWORK PROCESS
Using watercolour paper and going over a wash of greens and light brown watercolour, formed the background. As that was built on, I started creating the line work by using a pose reference from an image. As it was beginning to get its shape I added distorted features and darkened shadows to the figures. Interconnecting continuous lines create the intimate space that the figures are within. Lastly, applying a white acrylic wash below created a contrast between the walls and flooring to give the artwork depth and further sense of space.
