ARTIST STATEMENT
‘The Joy of Joey’ explores the focus of music in relation to one’s identity. The animated mosaic visualizes how music brings joy to my life and is a key part of who I am. By producing this artwork using images from all my favourite albums with an accompanying original music composition, I hope to support and advance the notion of keeping loyal to oneself. After witnessing my artwork, the viewer is encouraged to consider their own lives and identify what music makes them most happy and would make up their own mosaic.
ARTWORK PROCESS
Many high-quality images of my favourite albums’ covers were compiled. Then a template photo of myself was taken. Each image was then carefully selected, according to colour and tone, and placed respectively on the image. Once this had been done, Davinci Resolve, a powerful media software, was used to create the fly-in animation of the album covers. Using the software’s key frame tool, each album cover was mapped to its designated area resulting in the final animation. An upbeat music composition was created in Garageband that enhances the animation and was overlaid in the final artwork.
