ARTIST STATEMENT
The use of steel and scrap parts in contrast with charcoal and pastel serves to underline how industrialisation and subsequent changes in architectural design reflects the mindset of civilisation. Composing the sculpture as the main focus in front of the drawing provides contrast signifying the wide variety of capabilities achievable by humans, and while stone and steel are very different, they both can be moulded into something of our own genius. By placing emphasis on the sculpture, I stress the importance of remembering the sacrifices of those who designed and built the scaffolds for the society we live in.
ARTWORK PROCESS
Symbolek Har’vestar is a steel construct which harbours a composition of different pipes, scrap parts, and cables paired, in contrast, with a large charcoal and pastel drawing. I have composed the installation to present the sculpture as the main focus, thus providing contrast signifying the wide variety of capabilities achievable by humans, and while stone and steel are very different, they both can be moulded into something of our own genius. I want to stress the importance of remembering the sacrifices of those who designed and built the scaffolds for the society we live in.
