ARTIST STATEMENT

“Damnation" Is an animation that explores and elaborates on pre-existing ideas of death and mythology, closely following the journey of the main character who wants his deceased dog back. Working in the contemporary context, I have exploited the boundaries of traditional media by using an animation to create a story about death. The animation allows for a more advanced story that isn’t possible with traditional artwork. The use of a darkened room for viewing forces the audience to interact with the music and imagery to evoke feelings of sadness. Symbols are relied upon to communicate the underlying pre-established themes.

ARTWORK PROCESS

The process for this artwork was done in various steps. The first thing I did was research different topics to explore before settling on the idea of a deal with the devil. I then proceeded to make the characters for the story, and then designed them. After choosing music to suit the piece, I created a detailed storyboard to make my animation easier to create. Finally, I polished the animation and any last edits before I was finished.
