ARTIST STATEMENT
Each image is created from my own personal perspective, using a personal approach to show the world of someone suffering from a mental illness. These works are imbued with personal emotion to invite the viewer to think deeper, to be able to feel and to better understand. 'Symptoms' explores a condition that we may all encounter in today's stressful society, in this work, the focus is on panic attack, a type of anxiety disorder, it is also a summary of what I have experienced for the for the last three years being afflicted with anxiety, headache, racing heartbeat, shortness of breath and FEAR.
ARTWORK PROCESS
Four photographs represent the symptoms that arise when a panic attack occurs, which also inspired the title of this collection of work. The photos correspond in turn to headache, racing heartbeat, shortness of breath, and fear. Using black and white photographs with a unique photographic approach conveys my feelings about panic attack. A very personal exploration for this student, images are confronting and vulnerable.
