ARTIST STATEMENT

Authoritative figures abuse their power by utilising censorship to uphold their agendas, indoctrinating masses with false truths to minimise the risk of uproar whilst silencing those who revolt. Bed of Lies provides an alternate perspective on systemic corruption and its benefiters, whose ignorance is motivated by desires to maintain control and enhance personal privilege. Through a contemporary context, the child-sized bed frame emphasises society’s inability to “wake up” and recognize the embedded systematic lies. Red embroidered blood-like text stains the white bed like a child’s innocence tainted by the realisation of society’s immoralities, inviting benefiters to confront their injustices.
