ARTIST STATEMENT

A home is just an empty vessel without the memories it holds. Artist Hossein Valamanesh’s ability to communicate strong cultural and personal contexts through modified ordinary objects influenced my investigation into homes both physical and emotional. The Bowerbird nest ultimately represents a sense of place to the audience. Cyanotypes centrally frame the nest embodying the traditional blueprints of houses. Layers of textures, contrasting depth of the blue and white within the prints mimic intertwining memories to evoke a personal context.

ARTWORK PROCESS

Extending away from literal symbols and techniques, to explore personal context of home with cyanotypes utilising previous etching plates and collected items. Experimenting with the cyanotype blueprint technique to question links between home vs house, drawing on cultural contexts. The creation of a bower installation and juxtaposing it against the cyanotypes pushes the viewer to question what is important, physical, or emotional concept of home. The stimulus excursion inspired how locations evoke memories and associations.
