ARTIST STATEMENT
Hey bestie!!
You all know about Monsters Inc and Toy Story, but we are the better version that’s for sure.
We are the teddies from the child who abandoned us, grew up and never played with us again, until now.
Watch out though! Some of us have changed our appearance as well as an additional hand to grab your eye out while you're sleeping, Jokingggg! That’s honestly just for fun and games we will put it back in later.
Oh, and we will be very nice while we are here as well so don’t worry :).
ARTWORK PROCESS
I experimented with transforming inanimate objects into something alive through the addition of facial features and limbs. From here I explored a personal connection, using teddy bears from significant times in my childhood and adding monster like features. The additional limbs and facial features were constructed from air-dry clay and stitched in place. The artwork is designed to be displayed suspended above the audience, encouraging a sense of childlike wonder and play, the use of my own teddy bears also draws in personal connection, I am graduating soon, leaving my own childhood behind.
