ARTIST STATEMENT

Intimately entangled with matters of sexual assault is the idea of ‘victim blaming’, whereby victims are held entirely or partially at fault for the harm that befell them. This blaming is especially prevalent towards women, as it’s a convenient way through which patriarchal systems allow men to escape accountability. This narrative, in which women are perceived culpable for men’s repugnant actions, has become entrenched in history, perpetuated by the very story that tells us how the world came to be: the tale of Adam and Eve. Despite both eating the forbidden fruit, Eve is wholly ascribed blame, labelled paradigm of original sin.

ARTWORK PROCESS

Set up a studio setting to photograph the occupants of my artwork. Took a series of photographs directing the models to pose accordingly to the intent of my body of work. Using a 3D printer I manufactured the triangular shapes required for the digital images to be attached to. The shapes of the triangle was important in its planning and manufacture as it had to create the anamorphic illusion necessary for the artwork to be viewed correctly. This took some time to do. These shapes were then secured to a larger board for display purposes.
