ARTIST STATEMENT
“Memento Mori”, highlights the ever-progressing fatality of time. This piece is used, as the name suggests to provoke a sense of reality and urgency to the lives of its viewers, and incidentally, to its creator. This is derived from the personal context of one's own fatality, the common belief (particularly for males) that time is running out, that we must achieve something meaningful before time catches up with us. It is reflective of the driving force that makes many of us human, and it is this force that the work is intending to provoke.
ARTWORK PROCESS
The material used in creating the skull is important, with our physical being as humans being derived of the recycled remains of past physical forms on earth, recycled material is important. Using card stock made from ground and pressed paper, the skull itself is recycled through the process of the card stock.
