Coral Killed Landscape diorama
MDF board, resin, clay, plasticine, polymer clay, acrylic paint

ARTIST STATEMENT

This artwork represents an explicit message about coral bleaching, it symbolises the transition from healthy colourful coral to dying or dead mono-toned coral. Drawing attention to the issue caused by greenhouse gas emissions resulting in an increase in ocean acidification and water temperature. This work relies on the natural shapes of the coral and different forms to communicate knowledge to the audience. The coral is larger than normal, drawing attention to it as the centrepiece of the artwork.

ARTWORK PROCESS

A MDF frame was create to hold the resin in which created the ocean, the edges weren't sealed correctly which meant some of the resin leaked out. This resulted in the wave like forms, creating a more realistic form. 'Old Woman Island' was created with plasticine and the oversized coral with polymer clay.
