ARTIST STATEMENT

The tickets used are a visual metaphor, almost a keystone, for the developed world; underpinning the artwork just as the idea of paid access underpins much of modern society. The ephemeral nature of mono printing mirrors both the temporary use of tickets in general, as well as the current ever declining status of the environment. Juxtaposing natural forms, textures and shapes with the tickets opens a dialogue between the two elements, forcing the viewer to consider the consequences of the rate of progress and the cost of our modern way of life.

ARTWORK PROCESS

Mixed media mono-printing was the main technique used to create this collection which involved painting on top of a gelli plate and placing an object like a leaf or a secondary printed image onto it. The gelli plate monoprint (either in intaglio and relief processes or layering block paints) takes the desired image and allows you to print it onto the canvas which were parking tickets in this case.
