ARTIST STATEMENT
This artwork explores the adaptation of technology on humans. Hedy Llamar pioneered the technology that would later be the blueprint for Wi Fi, GPS, and Bluetooth communication systems. Otherwise, she is a huge contribution to the invention of internet. Her sketch can be seen overtaking the side of her face. This piece communicates an over exaggeration of the internet taking over humans, such as myself. Hedy Llamar is not aware of the dangers of her invention will have on humans. In this piece, I exaggerated that “technology is taking over humans” to communicate my view clearly.
ARTWORK PROCESS
To produce H3dy Llam4r, I used a blend of acrylic paints to match colours from the 1948 colourised photograph of Hedy Llamar in "Let's Live a Little". The background, inspired by technology was created by spraying on shades of lime green and industrial blue. Small details on the face were precisely composed with miniature paintbrushes. The blueprint seen on Llamar's forehead was sketched with HB pencil and a thin layer of diluted acrylic paint was applied on top to implement an engraved look.
