Fractured Sculpture
Sculpture and short film exploring art therapy through a contemporary and personal contexts; approached by varying scale and multiplying form.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Fractured explores the fundamentality of art therapy, through a contemporary context. I have approached the concept of conscious vs. subconscious, by changing scale, multiplying forms and changing the site for my work through sculpture and short film. The ephemerality of this piece is influenced by contemporary artist Rosemary Laing, forcing viewers to reflect and adapt to the environment just like the shards of acrylic as the light reflects daybreak. The audience is encouraged to interact with the piece, by scanning a QR code, this takes them on a journey, challenging their perception of art therapy and themselves.

ARTWORK PROCESS

Screen printing onto faceted pieces of acrylic with QR codes linking a short film depicting a chronological journey. Vibrant coloured pieces of acrylic hang, attached by fishing line; pieces of acrylic lay on the ground, beneath the hung component. The audience scans the QR code, this takes them to a film.
