Turning a blind eye Installation
Installation of three A4 boards with A4 backings, made of wood.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Turning a blind eye reveals the various ways in which society disregards the harsh realities of human cruelty and ignorance. Each piece depicts a different aspect of actual contemporary issues that are often overlooked; from the prominent problem of littering and collective consciousness of pollution to the inhumane acts of rhino poaching are represented throughout this series. The contrast between what we desire to perceive, and the brutal truth embodies the terrible consequences of humankind’s careless acts. To express this concept, each piece displays a variety of lenses that capture only what we want to see.

ARTWORK PROCESS

Artwork was created using digital technology. It was then printed and placed on three wooden boards. Each represented an environmental problem: pollution, animal cruelty and litter. The printed artwork was complemented by an installation which became a 3D view of each individual problem. Installations included creating clay models, plaster molds, miniature food wrappings, textures and collecting 'readymades'.
