ARTIST STATEMENT

Wonderland contrasts the invasive and destructive actions of humans against the harmony of nature. The fairy-tale scape serves as a metaphor for the purity and beauty of nature. The towering fungi represent the process by which nature has been able to sustain itself for millennia. Mushrooms are the recyclers of the earth: their primary purpose is to return dead matter to the environment for regeneration. The saturated colour projection of a cityscape drenching this utopia and its lack of clarity and focus symbolises the dominance of man’s supposed progress and his lack of foresight into the consequences of his actions.
