ARTIST STATEMENT

The world has already lost 80% of its forests and we are continually losing them at a rate of 375 km2 per day. Consider the human impact on our natural environment, constantly disrupting the course of nature, leaving it to die and decay. My artwork challenges the affect that humans have. The audience sees an array of decaying flowers preserved within frozen water, challenging traditional art practices. Instead of preserving the beauty of nature, the reality of nature is brought into focus as deforestation and human impact slowly leads the world into decay.

ARTWORK PROCESS

Decaying flowers were placed in plastic rectangular container filled with water and then frozen. The frozen flowers were then photographed close up.
