The Dimensions of Mental Stimulation
Wearable Art – one bikini top and pants depicting bipolar disorder. A dress with life-jacket accessory depicting organic patterns in nature.

ARTIST STATEMENT

How integral a role is a cognitive catalyst to innovation? Considering stimulus from both external and intrinsic motivators, the first piece challenges bipolar disorder. With chemical depictions of medication broken into repetitive shapes and lines, it provides a window into life of contrasts and structure necessary for those with BPD. The second piece also explores repetition, but organic patterns in nature. From branches of waterways, vessels in the lungs, these disordered patterns seemingly lack direction yet form aesthetic representations in science. Were these patterns in nature created deliberately? Is having a different brain defective or the impetus for creativity itself?
