ARTIST STATEMENT
The artwork “Humanities Moral Backbone” depicts the development of environments that are destroyed for economic gain and how despite knowing this is morally incorrect, human’s choose personal economic gain over moral dilemmas. The focus on the loss of the environment, has influenced my own practice with similarly explored visual representations considered in this artwork. In “Humanities Moral Backbone” a skull can be seen with local flora flowing downwards in the shape of the Stewarton Mine. These visual elements represent links to the local Blackwater area that has many employees that work in the mining industry for personal economic gain despite having knowledge that through this contribution they are essentially helping to destroy this environment.
ARTWORK PROCESS
