ARTIST STATEMENT

Nobody knows why or how we have obsessions. My obsession is perfectionism. I created this experience as a manifestation of its effects. Inside the box is like inside my mind. What you see are constant comparisons of perfect versus imperfect. On one side is success, it walks in a straight line with determination. On the other side, panic attacks, every time there is a slip up it is closer to becoming the tulle, a metaphor for the gradual weight slowly suffocating success. This was a reflection on the obsession that controls me emotionally, physically, and psychologically.

ARTWORK PROCESS

After experimenting, circles made up of words created the design which were screen-printed onto the fabric and made into a suit. Around twenty layers of tulle were cut and gathered in preparation for the video. The video was shot in an all-white setting with the model in the suit and the layers of tulle gradually added one at a time. Both the music and the clips from the shoot were then edited. The black cube had a place for the screen and tulle stapled to the inside. Finally, the suit and tulle were placed on separate mannequins.
