I was inspired by David Hockney’s photo collage artworks, I wanted the artwork to portray the idea of how times are changing so rapidly but music is constant, and it not affected by time. By combining images from past and present, I was trying to represent how these fragments of time can be combined to represent an image. The images of violins through the decades of my family are offset and don’t completely fit together but show music as the constant.
To create this artwork, I took a range of photographs of my viola, my great grandfathers’ violin, my mother’s violin and my sisters’ violin and printed them on photopaper. I then combined all these images to resemble the image of a mismatched violin. This photo collage was then assembled and adhered onto a black wooden board.
