ARTIST STATEMENT
I created this artwork to represent human portraits by drawing and water colouring feminine women with masculine beards. I expect confused, disgusted or intrigued reactions from the audience because of the weird unnatural pairing of women with a physical trait that is usually only seen on men. I imagine that a female audience would be more intrigued instead of disgusted because of the boldness of the piece whereas the men would be more confused. This is a serious piece that looks at the contemporary issues in society with the outrages beauty standards for women today and challenges them.
ARTWORK PROCESS
Creation process began at the bottom where she started layering watercolour and watercolour pencil to get depth of colour and details. Using reference images she created the artwork by adding beards onto women based on their facial structures to inform the style and shape of the beard.
