ARTIST STATEMENT

Within a formal context, and through a stream of conscious, I created imagery inspired by a visit to Mimburi, a farm in the foothills of the Blackall Ranges west of Noosa Heads. Insects such as butterflies and bees were in residence at Mimburi, which initially were a starting point and why they are embedded in the imagery. Butterflies symbolize growth, change and hope but are ultimately abstracted here; the dominant interest interest lies with the shapes, colours, lines and contrast – the formal aspect. Ultimately, I want the audience to enjoy the work as purely sensory.

ARTWORK PROCESS

I started off doing more representational images of butterflies however the imagery evolved through a process of abstraction; my main interest it turns out is the formal elements of art. The butterflies are still there hidden by layers of random shapes, lines and colour.
