Equilateral Installation
Immersive and engaging multi-media installation with a conceptual animation found inside

ARTIST STATEMENT

"Equilateral" is a conceptual perspective on personality that was influenced by both Nicolas Mole and Jean-Michel Basquiat's idiosyncratic search for portraying personal identify through art. The multidimensional animation and accompanying audio, emitting dulcet tones of my mother's memoirs, is an abstract interpretation of emotional discovery, stimulated by every new experience that shaped my life. The dome structure, evokes curiosity through a series of emblematic, capricious portraits, communicating a cause for positive and progressive provocation from the audience, a catalyst of new ideas and inspiration. The repetitive triangle shape throughout the installation represents a balance union between mind, body and spirit.

ARTWORK PROCESS

The installation's dome structure was constructed from scrap wood and thin PVC pipe. The pipe was cut to size by hand to create the equilateral triangles and then held together by customised hexagonal and pentagonal timber pieces and strong, flexible wire. The 40 cardboard triangles were initially coated with white gesso, then painted with a base layer of bright acrylic colours to create a multi-layered effect. The completed triangles were illustrated with unique shapes and patterns to create abstract faces with both human and non-human features. The animation was planned as a storyboard and then produced on Adobe Animate.
