ARTIST STATEMENT

‘What the future will see is in our hands.’ Environmental issues surround us, the young man crushes the earth, symbolising the power that humans have. The businessman’s polluted factory inside his briefcase was created out of selfish financial gain. We are pulling and twisting the stings, ruining our world. The red slash of paint adds a sense of brutality, dramatising the mess humans are creating. I would like the viewer to recognise that this generation needs to stop the destruction. Time is ticking, what are you going to do to save the earth?

ARTWORK PROCESS

I chose this topic because of my concern about the environment. Out of selfishness and pride we are destroying the earth and leaving it for future generations to deal with the consequences. I chose to make it personal by using my brother as the inspiration for my images. I photographed him in the poses that I wanted and developed realistic charcoal and graphite sketches.
