Breaking The Connection Drawing
Wax based coloured pencils on wood.

ARTIST STATEMENT

The portrayal of a young man represents youthful ignorance to natural cycles. Furthermore, the red and blue colours in the panels represent humanity being in control of the “heart and blood” of nature. In the first two panels, vibrant greens and yellows in the sunflowers and leaves represent life and energy, which contrasts heavily with the black background. This foreshadows the final panel, where trees are portrayed as vague silhouettes. The final panel is desolate of vibrancy, which contrasts to the others, representing stripped life.

ARTWORK PROCESS

Acrylic paint was painted on three cylindrical panels. Wax-based pencils were layered multiple times to create vibrancy and depth.
