The Future of K'Gari? Painting
Painting on three canvas boards

ARTIST STATEMENT

My work, “The Future of K’Gari?” tells a story about what would have happened if the Stirling Castle didn't shipwreck near K'gari. What would have happened to the people on the island? When thinking about this idea from a personal and cultural context, it makes me think about the effects on the Butchalla people and how different their history could have been.

ARTWORK PROCESS

The artworks were created using acrylic paints and Posca pens.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Kyrani Flanagan-Togo

I'm a 17 year old artist and proud Koorie and South Sea Islander woman. Ever since I was little, I learned about and studied the Butchalla language and stories. In my artworks, I like to express my point of view so people can see through my eyes what I think about certain topics. My peers are the ones who support my art with the love they have for it.
