ARTIST STATEMENT
Similar to Mat Collishaw’s representation of found objects, ‘Toys Story’ shows items selected from my childhood that hold many significant memories that are unfortunately left behind as I proceed in life. My experimental work also incorporated the use of still life photography to achieve a similar effect as “Martin Vegas”. Collishaw manipulates found objects as symbols from the past that hold a close bond and significance to a person, for example meals that have been requested on death row. These meals were once enjoyed in the past and hold many memories and happy times but are going to
ARTWORK PROCESS
Mat Collishaw’s contemporary artwork “Martin Vegas” influenced my experimental work, “Toys Story” not only with its technique but also its underlying message. “Toys Story” replicates the same contemporary context and manipulation of found objects as “Martin Vegas”. Mat Collishaw’s use of dark lighting focusing only on the found objects inspired me to incorporate a similar approach to my experimental work.
