Chained Identity Paper, charcoal, metal chained, artificial flower
A series of 3 mixed media artworks showing the impact the media media can have on your identity.

ARTIST STATEMENT

The series of artwork focuses on societies standards, and how we can be forced to be something that we are not. I chose this theme as it a common influence in our society. The media, represented by the printed background paper, dictates how we should act, dress, talk and look in order to meet the standard of 'normal'. I want people to feel like they can be themselves, and they don't need to please others. It's what we think about ourselves that matters, not what other people think. We should like ourselves, and be able to express ourselves freely.

ARTWORK PROCESS

Layers on printed paper, with charcoal images layers on top. Metal chain and artificial flowers have been attached as a 3D relief over the images.
