Fragments Painting
A collection of six framed artworks exploring the convention and representation of emotions or moods through a personal lens.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Emotions are essential to the human experience and are at the heart of the creative process. Each of my paintings portray a colourful cast of characters and composition; each painting individually representing an emotion. Although all unique, the paintings share symbols and style to collectively explore positive and negative moods. While drawing from my emotions, I included butterflies and moths to represent both positive and negative feelings. Each painting features one colour and tonal variation of this colour in order to highlight the exploration of colour and emotion. Fragments is the representation of my personal journey and perception of emotions.

ARTWORK PROCESS

Each girl in the portraits have either a butterfly or a moth on their face, the butterfly representing positive emotions and moths representing negative emotions. Each girl also possessed a distinct monochromatic colour pallet created with watercolour. Each colour represents an emotion based social idea or expectation and my own interpretation of the colour.
