Tour of a Tourist Print
Lino print on paper

ARTIST STATEMENT

My work was inspired by Christian Thompson and the idea of tourist culture. My artwork features the aspects of culture, relating to my inquiry question - "How do artists explore cultural values in art?" As lino printing can be difficult at times, I managed to create four great lino prints. Through constant repetition of the lino printing process, it became easier with every print performed. The four finished designs represent the inspiration of Christian Thompson and tourist culture mixed into one.

ARTWORK PROCESS

I was inspired by the cultural context specifically, tourism culture of Magnetic Island and the artworks of Christian Thompson. I created a series of four lino prints using myself and a snorkel, floaties, flippers and a bucket hat to link tourism with consumerism. A bright colour palette and stylised imagery created connections to Pop art.
