The ifa Excellence Awards are the benchmark for excellence in the independent financial advice sector. Since 2015, the awards have celebrated the excellence and ethics from the most senior ranks to its rising stars, benchmarking success in the independent and privately-owned financial advice sector in particular.

Entry requirements

  • Entrants must address all submission questions and may provide up to two optional third-party references.
  • There is a 300-word limit per question. If you exceed this, the system will not allow you to lodge your submission.
  • Please provide and refer to any attached supporting material for the judges’ consideration. This material may differ depending on the category and can include images, statistics, media coverage and other relevant information. If documents are not directly referenced and relevant to your submission, they will be disregarded. You may submit a maximum of FOUR additional supporting documents to strengthen your entry, unless directly requested.

This is an individual award that is open to any independent or independently minded financial adviser and is based on the period from 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2018.

This award recognises a leading compliance, risk, legal or licensing consultant who supports the IFA sector via the provision of services to advisers and firms, and can effectively demonstrate that their role and advice has transformed and helped improved best practice and professionalism in the IFA market.

Eligibility

This is an individual award that is open to third-party consultants who specialise in providing compliance, risk management, AFSL application and support or legal services to independent or independently minded financial advisers or firms, and is based on activities during the period from 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2018.

This award recognises the individual chief executive, executive or senior manager of an independent or independently minded dealer group who has built the most successful business over the past calendar year.

Success will be measured by the individual adviser and collective advice capabilities of the company, growth and retention of advisers and other team members, plus the success of the business in terms of revenue and profitability.

The recipient of this award will personify business leadership, be entrepreneurial and committed to the independent advice sector, as well as be a public advocate for independent advice.

Eligibility

This is an individual award open to any executive of an independent or independently minded AFSL holder that authorises third-party financial advice providers, and is based on the period from 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2018.

This award recognises a provider of financial advice that is centred on client goals or objectives and can demonstrate a focus on client behavioural and wellbeing outcomes beyond investment management performance and financial returns.

This is an individual award open to any independent or independently minded financial adviser and is based on the period from 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2018.

This award recognises an individual that can offer clients a multitude of advice services and professional disciplines, such as investment and risk advice, SMSF, tax and accounting, legal and estate planning, and mortgage and credit advice.

This is an individual award open to any independent or independently minded financial adviser and is based on the period from 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2018.

This professional or executive is able to clearly articulate the desired direction of the industry and draw upon best practice from other relevant industries and markets to champion growth and development of the sector.

The advice industry has long attracted graduates - or other professionals seeking a career change - with big upsides for those who are successful. While the rewards are significant, starting up can be a challenge, and only the driven truly succeed.

This award recognises Australia's top adviser (whether risk, investment, SMSF or all), considering not only the delivery of best practice advice but also the aptitude and acumen to build a solid advice business and client proposition. As well as these key skills, the Newcomer of the Year will demonstrate their potential as a future industry leader.

This award recognises the individual owner or managing director of a boutique, self-licensed financial planning firm who has built the most successful business over the past calendar year.

Success will be measured by the individual adviser and collective advice capabilities of the firm, growth and retention of advisers and other team members, plus the success of the business in terms of revenue and profitability.

This award recognises the boutique or self-licensed financial advice firm that has most effectively driven business growth during 2018, utilising a range of business development principles and tactics.

Based on business growth metrics as well as support and servicing, the award considers the activities, strategies and actions of the group in terms of adviser recruitment and retention, as well as the success of individual advisers in supporting the corporate's overall growth and development. It also recognises strong progress over the past 12 months in terms of funds under advice (FUA).

Eligibility

This is a company award that is open to all self-licensed financial advice companies that have their own AFSL and do not authorise other third parties in Australia i.e. all advisers are partners or employees. The category is based on the period from 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2018.

This is a company award that is open to any advice firm, group of connected advice firms, or dealer group, and is based on the period from 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2018.

This award recognises the financial planning AFSL that has created the most effective business from start-up phase.

Based on business growth metrics, plus the support of individual advisers, this award considers the activities, strategies and actions of the group in terms of adviser recruitment and retention, as well as the success of individual advisers in supporting the group's overall growth and development. It also recognises strong progress in funds under advice (FUA).

Eligibility

This is a company award that is open to all independent or independently minded AFSL holders (both boutique and dealer group) established after 1 January 2018.

This award recognises a financial advice firm in Australia that has actively advocated for health and wellness initiatives, events and/or activities among their peers and the community at large.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this award, the firm must demonstrate how its initiatives have enriched the understanding and emphasised the importance of wellness in Australia's finance industry over 12 months, from 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2018.
